The Doctors Gateway Plus Programme

For middle-grade international Doctors looking for their first role in the UK’s NHS.

This programme has been specifically created to support middle-grade (ST3 and above) International Medical Graduates (IMGs) to obtain their first role as a Doctor in the UK’s NHS.

It allows you add value and to build on your existing experience, working at an appropriate grade to gain new and relevant experience in the NHS during employment.

 

Is the Doctors Gateway Plus Programme right for me?

You can apply for this programme if you are an International Medical Graduate. We accept applications from Doctors, with middle-grade experience, gained internationally.

Apply for the Gateway Plus programme if:

  • You are registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and have a licence to practice.
  • Preferably, you will have membership of a Royal College.
  • You are looking to relocate to the UK and work for the NHS.

  • Access to a mentorship programme provided by senior clinicians, if required.
  • Circa 24-months continuous employment at one of our Gateway Partner Trusts* across the UK, in your preferred specialty.

    • 30 hours a year of accredited learning designed specifically to meet your needs.
    • Access to accredited 'training to be a teacher' and teaching opportunities.
    • Appraisal support including, preparation for and completion of your annual appraisal, meeting GMC requirements.

*The Gateway Partner Trust refers to an NHS Trust in England, a health board in a devolved nation, or an Integrated Care System, who will be your employer, they will be responsible for provision of Visa Sponsorship. Some Trusts offer extended induction periods to ensure acclimatisation into the NHS.
