Internet Security/ Phishing Email Reminder
Stay safe online - be aware of cyber attacks:
In order to maintain your safety online, it’s important to keep up to date with the latest threats. Below we have provided some information regarding this, which we hope you will find useful:
There are different types of online scams:
- Phishing/ Smishing: activity where cyber criminals pose as someone legitimate to convince you into disclosing personal data or clicking on a ‘bad link’
- Vishing: where cyber criminals impersonate a person or business on a phone call to try and get you to provide personal details or make a payment urgently
Please be vigilant as scams can come through different channels, such as phone, text, email, social media or a link sent through video conferencing apps. If you are unsure of a communication that looks to have been sent to you from NHS Professionals, it is always best to check with your local trust-based team or call our National Service Centre.
The National Cyber Security Centre advise that criminals use information about you that’s available online (including on social media sites) to make their phishing messages more convincing. You can reduce the likelihood of being phished by thinking about what personal information you (and others) post about you, and by reviewing your privacy settings within your social media accounts.
Most importantly, if an email / text / phone call doesn’t seem right - think twice!
If you feel someone is not from the company they are calling from, look up their contact details independently and ring the company back on that number to double check. Please also make sure that you wait 5 mins before calling the company, as the scammers may still be possessing the line.
