Nightingale Hospitals are an unprecedented response to an unprecedented global health emergency.

NHS Nightingale North West in Manchester has been built as part of the UK’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The new hospital will open in April 2020 to provide care for COVID-19 patients from across the region.  The hospital will provide general medical care and oxygen therapy for up to 750 patients who do not require critical care.  The hospital is staffed by consultants, doctors, nursing staff, allied health professionals and a range of non-clinical staff.  Together these staff will provide the highest standard of care for patients.

JOB PURPOSE:

The post holder will work primarily within relevant clinical area.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring immediate care to relevant client group and will work primarily within the service. The post holder will assess, plan implement and evaluate the care for these patients supporting and guiding junior staff in the process. S/he will provide direct patient care and have detailed clinical knowledge of the specialist area. The post holder will assist the ward manager in ensuring that high standards of quality of care are delivered & maintained. The post holder will act as a positive role model within the department for staff patients and carers. The post holder will deputise for the senior sister as required.

The post holder will enable nurses to acquire clinical and professional competencies by facilitating high quality education and staff development opportunities.

Post holders will be expected to participate fully in their personal development and review process in order to achieve the knowledge and skills identified in the KSF outlines for this post, prior to the relevant KSF gateways.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES

Clinical:

  • Be responsible for the delivery of clinical expertise in all aspects of the clinical setting clinical setting, acting as a visible practitioner in the Ward/Department
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals in the delivery of high standards of effective health care within best practice guidelines
  • Act as a resource of specialised knowledge and clinical expertise to ensure care delivered to the client group is appropriate and optimum enabling early recognition of condition changes and ensuring appropriate corrective action is instituted.
  • At all times appropriately use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) available for personal use.
  • Demonstrate awareness of legislation regarding client group e.g. child protection, vulnerable adults, mental health issues and act appropriately when required.
  • Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct in order that a safe and quality service is provided.
  • Promote the shared objectives of the multidisciplinary team by working closely to ensure that best practice is achieved utilising both Clinical Benchmarking and Essence of Care processes to achieve this.
  • Promote the interface between hospital and community to provide a seamless service for the client group.
  • Promote and collaborate in developing good working relationships with departments to ensure the patient journey is effective and efficient.
  • Encourage and promote an evidence based culture through pathways and protocols of care within an interdisciplinary approach.

Leadership:

  • Provide visible clinical leadership to the nursing team promoting a culture of leadership by example to all staff
  • Support the ward manager in delivering the core values and beliefs of the ward/department.
  • Support the ward manager in his/her role in delivering the functions of the Modern Matron role, within the clinical setting and take appropriate action when standards of quality, quantity and timeliness are not met.

Physical Effort

The post holder has a key leadership and management role at a senior level, will provide specialist skills and knowledge to support the organization and delivery of care for patients within the unit. This will incorporate the provision of care to patients and their families in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within the area, ensuring that Trust values and beliefs are upheld. The Senior Ward Sister / Charge nurse has a fundamental role in the delivery of high standards of nursing care, ensuring an environment that is conducive to well-being and contributing to effective budgetary management.

Leadership:

JOB PURPOSE

 

The post holder will assess, plan, evaluate and deliver all relevant aspects of patient care in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner. Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to the clinical governance process.  Act as a supervisor/preceptor to junior staff, with specific responsibility for pre-registration students. 

 

The post holder will take delegated responsibility for the management of the clinical team and the maintenance of high standards of quality patient care on a shift basis.

 

 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Clinical:

·       Take overall responsibility for the coordination and safe effective management of the ward/clinical area on a shift-by-shift basis as delegated by the Ward Manager/Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.

·       Undertake comprehensive health care needs assessment of patients, reassessing as appropriate.

·       Collaborate with other health care professionals in the delivery of high standards of effective health care.

·      At all times appropriately use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) available for personal use.

·       Lead on the delivery of care, ensuring individual programmes of care are assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated.

·       Use professional judgement when assessing patient needs/ problems and investigations requiring analysis and intervention.

·       Organise own time and that of junior staff and learners.

Nightingale Hospitals are an unprecedented response to an unprecedented global health emergency.

NHS Nightingale North West in Manchester has been built as part of the UK’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The new hospital will open in April 2020 to provide care for COVID-19 patients from across the region.  The hospital will provide general medical care and oxygen therapy for up to 750 patients who do not require critical care.  The hospital is staffed by consultants, doctors, nursing staff, allied health professionals and a range of non-clinical staff.  Together these staff will provide the highest standard of care for patients.

Role Summary

The post holder will:

  • Be responsible for participating and assisting in the delivery of care/services to patient/ service users within the Trust.
  • Work under the overall supervision of a registered member of staff.

  • Ensure patient’s/clients nutritional needs are met through assisting in the preparation of patients/clients prior to meals and beverages, give help and assistance in feeding/drinking as necessary.
  • Appropriately record and monitor dietary intake of patients/clients, informing relevant staff of progress and/or any difficulties relating to dietary/fluid intake.
