NHS Counter Fraud – Bolton NHS FT – Zero Tolerance approach

I would like to introduce myself as the Counter Fraud Manager for Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. NHS Fraud is unacceptable, and everyone has a role to play to ensure NHS funds are protected.

What is fraud?

Fraud is the intentional distortion of either financial statements or other records, by persons internal or external to the organisation, in order to conceal the misappropriation of assets or otherwise to gain. In plain English this means some action is taken which results in a loss to the Trust or a gain to an individual, not as the result of physical theft.

Examples of frauds which may take place are:

  • Working elsewhere whilst being off sick
  • Falsifying timesheets
  • Using false identifications
  • Falsifying qualifications/experience and skills

All fraud referrals will be investigated.
